It all began in Stroud.

My first experience of woodwork metalwork and art was at the Stroud Boys Technical School, followed by a Foundation course at Cheltenham College of Art.

I trained as a silversmith at Loughborough College of Art and Design
followed by an MA in industrial design at Birmingham Polytechnic. My first design job was in Germany with WMF and this influenced me enormously. After gaining commercial design and lecturing experience in England, Germany, India and Hong Kong I spent seven years at the Design Council in London working as a design consultant.

I established david hayward design in 1986 and purchased my present
studio and workshop a Grade 2 listed building in 2000.

My original 'SCRIBBLER' 5.6mm clutch pencil has influenced many other companies to develop their own designs.

Working with engineers and many skilled craftsmen I use my product design and silversmithing experience to create the unique products you will find online and in my studio shop in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.
